CLASS INFORMATION​ & FEES
Terms

We are splitting the year into three terms, and each will have 10 lessons. The Fall term will begin October 12 and end December 16; the Winter term will be January 5 to March 9; and the Spring term will go from April 6 until June 10.

Registration 
 
Registration Fee is $40 per student. (This is a one-time payment; not once per term)
Registration fees can by paid by e-transfer or in person by cash or cheque. 
Performance Group Lessons
Preschool

Ages 3-5

Classes: Fyvie, & Aberdeen

An introduction to Highland and Scottish Country dance. Preschool songs and games will be used to encourage participation and foster a love of performing and teamwork. Dancers will learn some basic Scottish Country dances and will have the opportunity to perform in the community throughout the year.

Costume requirements: a tartan “junior” kilt, a white blouse, white knee socks and black dancing shoes (can be slip-on ballet style to start). Hair must be neatly tied back in two French braids (if long enough) or bun.

To wear to class: shorts or skirt, a t-shirt or tank top, and black dancing shoes. No jeans or long/loose pants. Hair must be tied back in a ponytail or bun.

Payment options:

Junior Class

Classes: Inverness, Huntly, Skye, Dundee, Perth, Edinburgh

More focus on the fundamentals of Highland dancing. Dancers will learn the basics for the Highland Fling and Sword dance, as well as some Scottish Country dances to perform. 

Dancers may have the opportunity to move into our advanced classes upon assessment mid-way through the year. 

Costume requirements: a tartan junior kilt, a white blouse, Highland vest (optional), white knee socks and black dancing shoes. Hair must be neatly tied back in two French braids or bun.

 

To wear to class: shorts or skirt, a t-shirt or tank top, and black dancing shoes. No jeans or long/loose pants. Hair must be tied back in a ponytail or bun.

Senior Class

Class: Glayva

Glayva dancers (aged 14 and older) will be asked to perform at Remembrance Day ceremonies and Robbie Burns functions.  

Glayva dancers are required to have a black, long-sleeved jacket and black hat, and a white dress outfit for performing. Glayva dancers are required to wear the Dunvegan Dance Academy jacket ($45) to and from performances. Orders can be placed in the first two weeks of September.

Highland Exam Lessons

Ages 6+

$205.00/term

Dancers aged 6 or 7 and older are encouraged to enrol in these classes in addition to their Group performance class. Traditional Highland dances will be taught with the goal of participation in SDTA medal tests.  When dancers start taking part in trips (aged 9 and older) they will be able to perform twice as many dances. Dancers in Glayva class are expected to enrol in Highland Exam classes to ensure that their technique is kept up to the standard required for performances.

Dancers at Silver level or higher require a Full Highland kilt outfit in order to take part in their Highland examinations.

Performances

Due to COVID-19, performances for the year will be done in a virtual format and/or outdoors at a safe distance from audiences.
