Canadians delighted with Forres return

Updated: Jul 21, 2023

When Dunvegan Dance Academy owner Sarah Stubley was organizing her Vancouver-based group’s trip around Scotland, the first thing she checked was the date of Forres Highland Games. Having performed there in 2014, Sarah wanted to return with her group of 16 dancers – and everything fell into place. Her group, named after Dunvegan Castle on the Isle of Skye, performed at Grant Park at 3pm. Four of the members, aged 14- 20, were returning, with the rest first time visitors and they all loved the experience. Speaking at the games, Sarah said: “They are all having a good time. They’ve met an owl, watched

some dancing and really enjoyed being here. “Everyone has been so welcoming and friendly. I think they are all touched knowing Canadians have come all this way to the games.” In order to pay for their visit, the Dunvegan girls fund-raised by hosting a Burns night, selling raffle tickets and, in typical Canadian fashion, by selling tickets for ice hockey. Their trip will last three weeks and has taken them to Glasgow and Ayrshire.
